Large-Animal FAQ

Large Animal LaminitisHow do I set up an appointment?

Please call the Large Animal reception at (360) 568-3111 and talk with one of our receptionists to set up an appointment and they will direct any questions that they cannot answer directly to the Doctor who will be seeing you.

How long will an appointment take?

This will depend on the type of appointment being made but can range from 30 minutes to 3+ hours for a complicated lameness exam. The receptionist setting up the appointment will be able to help answer this at the set up time.

Can I drop my horse off for an appointment?

Yes, we have day stalls that your horse can wait in as long as it is set up ahead of time. There will be a

day fee for the stall.

What can I expect when dropping my horse off for surgery?

There will be a stall ready and waiting and after all the needed information is obtained and a deposit is left for surgery your horse will be examined and placed in a stall. Any other diagnostics will be performed before surgery.

Do you do day surgeries?

Yes. Certain surgical procedures can be done as a day surgery based on the surgeons preference. Your horse may need to be held off feed for 12 hours prior to surgery.

What about insurance for my horse? Do I need it? Do you have suggestions for insurance providers?

Please visit our page on horse insurance providers for more information.

If an animal dies on my property, what should I do?

While this is never a pleasant subject to discuss, it is helpful to know what your options are and to have a listing of resources available. The Snohomish Conservation District has put together a document to guide you (PDF download).
