March 23, Snohomish, WA – Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital announced today that Dr. Tad M. Tipton has joined their equine
ambulatory team as of March 1, 2011.
Dr. Tipton received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science in 2000 from the University of Wyoming and his veterinary degree from Kansas State University in 2004. Upon graduation, he joined the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute where he interned from July 2004 – July 2005. Hagyard is regarded as the world's premier equine practice since 1876. Each year, Hagyard performs over 6,000 surgical procedures and is regarded as the oldest and largest equine hospital in the world.
In July of 2005, Dr. Tipton became an ambulatory equine doctor for Hagyard, where he continued to develop his skills in reproduction, dentistry, herd health, emergency medicine, and foal neonatal care until February 2011.
Dr. Tipton is familiar with Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital because he completed an externship at Pilchuck in 2003. He also received instruction from Dr. James Bryant, Pilchuck’s well-known Equine Department Head, when Dr. Bryant taught at Kansas State University many years ago.
Dr. Tipton was raised in Western Nebraska on a large ranch with 3000-5000 head of cattle. He is a true outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and fishing. He also competes regularly in team roping, a popular and very exciting rodeo event. Team roping is known as heading and heeling and features a steer with long horns being roped by two mounted riders, one from the front and one from the rear.
“I’ve been competing in team roping events since I was in college. It was a way of life growing up. It’s fast, and I get a real adrenalin rush. I’ve even found a place here in Marysville where I can compete so I feel right at home.
I joined Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital because of their outstanding reputation, the high quality of medical care and the fact that there’s room to grow in this practice. Everyone here is friendly and my transition has been very comfortable. Pilchuck is on the cutting edge of technology and the support staff and veterinarians are some of the best in the country.”
“Dr. Tipton is an ideal fit with Pilchuck and hails from one of the most prestigious equine institutes in the world,” comments Dr. James Bryant, Department Head of the Equine Hospital. “He’s available for routine field service calls, emergencies and haul-in appointments.”
Dr. Tipton joins an equine ambulatory team of 6 doctors and is supported by the hospital facility of 4 boarded surgeons, 1 boarded internist and a 24-hour nursing staff. The Pilchuck Equine Hospital houses 2 surgery suites, a standing surgery/procedure room, a 23 stall barn (including 3 ICU stalls and 4 isolation stalls), 2 air mattress-equipped anesthesia recovery stalls, a covered lameness arena and several out patient assessment areas.
“We welcome Dr. Tipton and invite our Pilchuck clients to schedule an appointment with him at 360-568-3111,” said Bryant.
Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital and Ambulatory Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital serves the equine community and provides services for referring veterinarians throughout the region.
