Llama & Alpaca Health Topics

We enjoy treating llamas and alpacas at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital. The health issues of the camelid family are varied today, due to a diversity of uses and living environments. Llamas, alpacas, and vicunas can be found on large ranches where they are bred and raised for their fleece or used as pack animals; on smaller farms where they are kept as pets or "watch animals" for flocks of sheep; or still freely roaming the wild in many countries. We are still developing the topics for this page, so please visit again. In the meantime, here are a couple of sites with articles on llama and alpaca health and medicine. Although written by veterinarians, these articles were intended to educate not diagnose, so if you have a question or concern, call your vet.

Llama, Alpaca and Camel Health provides an extensive listing of articles on camelid health.
