Working animals are very special creatures. Without a common spoken language, they become our partners in complex activities that risk life and limb while testing the bonds between animals and humans. We recognize the enormous commitment and dedication necessary to train and prepare for any kind of performance, be it a sporting event or a search and rescue mission, a visit to a nursing home or a routine patrol. All of us at Pilchuck salute the people and their animal partners who train and perform as service animals, search and rescue dogs, police horses, guide dogs, therapeutic riding horses, therapy animals, draft horses, sled dogs, and competitive athletes, to name only a few.
To honor some of these special animals, we share some of their stories below, and invite you to do the same.
